> MURDER, TEA AND NIGHTMARE INTERROGATIONS IN A BEAUTIFUL SETTING - MEET FEFU AND HER FRIENDS IN A UNIQUE THEATRE EXPERIENCE!
>
> Winnipeg, March 31, 2014: This spring, challenge your preconceptions of life with the Winnipeg premiere of Fefu and Her Friends! The play is set in a country house in New England in the spring of 1935 and takes the audience through an entire day, as Fefu’s guests arrive to plan a charity event. The action climaxes in a bizarre murder scene in the evening. The site specific nature of the play will have the audience roving to different rooms of a beautiful heritage home to watch the action unfold. Although written in 1977, the play explores timely themes of oppression and how we attempt to deal with our feelings of discomfort in a repressive society.
>
> “We are excited to be presenting this work in the beautiful old heritage house operated by the University Women’s Club of Winnipeg,” says Artistic Director Hope McIntyre, “as it fulfills our mandate of using non-traditional forms of theatre to tell stories.” Fefu and Her Friends is a one-of-a-kind production and with only 60 seats per performance it is bound to sell out fast!
>
> The play is known for helping to establish the off-off Broadway experimental movement in New York in the late 1970s. Its unique absurdist and surreal elements combine with the powerful use of space to make it a full experience for the audience.
>
> The play is also unique due to the fact that it will feature eight local female performers. We are pleased to have stage veteran Megan McArton helming the cast as Fefu. McArton will be coming off a run of Harvest at Prairie Theatre Exchange. Elena Anciro, Julia Arkos, Nan Fewchuk, Brenda McLean, Tracey Nepinak, Tracy Penner and Kelci Stephenson round out the cast. The artistic team will be led by director Hope McIntyre, assistant director Rachel Smith and a local design team including Kim Griffin (set designer), Diane Klisko (costume designer) and Chris Coyne (sound designer).
>
> “I had never seen intelligence and intuition, history and character, environmental and realistic theater, narrative and experimental techniques combined in such an extraordinary way.”
> - Oskar Eustes
